Feedback Needed on the 2024 Buncombe County Presidential Election Early Voting Survey Do you want to have a voice in how Early Voting works for the 2024 General Election? Take our five-question survey so your voice can be heard. The Buncombe County Board of Elections will take feedback into consideration when determining the number of locations and weekend hours for Early Voting. The survey closes on Friday, May 3. Staff is recommending the 13 early voting sites listed below. We also highly recommend that the Board approve weekend hours that would allow for only one shift to work per day instead of the two shifts that poll workers normally work weekdays. This will ensure poll workers can rotate days and have a day off during the two and half weeks we are open. Review the entire plan here. Proposed Sites: 1. Bee Tree Fire Station – 510 Bee Tree Rd, Swannanoa 28778 2. Black Mountain Library – 105 N. Dougherty St, Black Mountain 28711 3. East Asheville Library– 3 Avon Rd, Asheville 28805 4. Enka-Candler Library – 1404 Sand Hill Rd, Candler 28715 5. Fairview Library – 1 Taylor Rd, Fairview 28730 6. Friendship Center – 142 Shiloh Rd, Asheville 28803 7. Leicester Community Center – 2979 New Leicester Hwy, Leicester 28748 8. North Asheville Location – TBD 9. South Buncombe Library – 260 Overlook Rd, Asheville 28803 10. UNC-Asheville – (specific location within campus to be determined) 11. Weaverville Community Center – 60 Lakeshore Dr, Weaverville 28787 12. Wesley Grant Southside Center (in lieu of BOE) – 285 Livingston St, Asheville 28801 13. West Asheville Library – 942 Haywood Rd, Asheville 28806 Recommended Weekend Hours: Recommend one shift on Saturday and/or Sunday.Recommended weekend hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, five hours plus the additional time needed to complete opening and closing duties.Open both Saturdays – October 19 and October 26Open one Sunday – October 27   Hours of Operation Mandates: Mandatory weekday hours are still 8:00 am to 7:30 pm.Last Saturday of early voting hours are still 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.Must maintain uniform hours for all sites. If one site is open, then all one stop sites must be open for the same number of hours. This requirement applies to weekdays and weekends.   Early Voting Dates October 17th through November 2nd What’s next? The Board of Elections will also hear in-person feedback on the plan during the meeting on April 30. During the BOE meeting on Tuesday, May 7 the board will review all of the community feedback and vote on adoption of the plan. After that, Buncombe County will publicize the finalized Early Voting and General Election locations and hours on our website, through media partners, social media, and on the Board of Elections Engage page https://engage.buncombecounty.org/boardofelections. WNC Healthy Impact: Community Health Assessment

In the next few weeks, the residents of Buncombe County will play a crucial role in helping Buncombe County Health and Human Services identify important health needs in our community and the surrounding area. We've partnered with the national research firm PRC based in Omaha, Nebraska, to conduct the Community Health Assessment (CHA) survey. The confidential survey will ask about residents' health, behaviors, and experiences. Our county is part of a regional community health assessment and improvement initiative called  WNC Healthy Impact. This collaborative effort involves hospitals, health departments, and partners dedicated to improving community health. WNC Healthy Impact aims to gather comprehensive data to better understand and address regional health concerns. Buncombe County is one of eighteen counties participating in the CHA across western North Carolina. The survey covers various health-related factors, including demographics, socioeconomics, health status, disparities, behaviors, clinical care, physical environment, and quality of life. This data is the basis for our efforts to prioritize and address health challenges over the next three years. The Buncombe County Health and Human Services encourages all residents to take part. Ellis Matheson, Buncombe County HHS Public Health Director said, “We strongly encourage everyone to complete the online survey and to respond if contacted by phone. This initiative gives our community the chance to provide information that helps us address the most important health needs in our area."   Residents can also contribute through an online survey option. Residents can share their input by accessing the survey on our website at www.prcsurvey.com/begin/WNC2024. The WNC Community Health Assessment is made possible thans to the generous contributions of hospitals accross the region with additional funding from The Dogwood Health Trust. Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee Meetings (HCCBG)

The Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee makes grant recommendations to the Board of Commissioners regarding allocations of Home and Community Care Block Grant funding and County Aging Services funding. The Advisory Committee meets every 4th Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. on Zoom.HCCBG Advisory Committee serves as an advisory body to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners made up of appointed community members who meet on a monthly basis to:Review funding applications and provide County Commissioners with funding recommendations for aging services;Review quarterly reports and monitoring reports regarding the delivery of services from the funded agencies;Consider and discuss new ways to improve/expand on aging services;Review aging plan and provide input; andAdvocate for aging services on the local, state, and national levels.
