WHAT IS THIS ACTIVITY?

Buncombe County residents under the age of 18 can complete an activity to earn a patch of the Comprehensive Plan logo.

WHY IS BUNCOMBE SHARING THIS ACTIVITY?

Buncombe County government is working with the community to create its first 20-year Plan. To create the Plan we need to hear from as many people as possible who live, work, go to school, or own property in Buncombe. To encourage young people to share their ideas Buncombe is offering this patch activity as a reward for participating.

WHAT IS A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN?

A Comprehensive Plan is a document that is used as a guide by a local government to help plan for the future. The document tells the government what they should be focusing on to help the community be safe, healthy, and successful. The Plan will focus on topics such as housing, transportation, the environment, education, jobs, food, parks, and more! You can learn more about the planning process at buncombecounty.org/plan2043

WHY SHOULD YOUNG PEOPLE CARE?

Youth ideas are especially important when creating a long-range plan because the decisions made today will impact what the community is like over the next 20 years. Your voice can help shape decisions that Buncombe will make. Decisions like, where should new homes and businesses be built? What lands should we protect? Where should we build greenways? And so many other decisions. 

HOW TO EARN THE PATCH

1. Complete all of the steps and questions on the following pages by September 7, 2022
2. Patches will be available for pickup or will be mailed around October.
