Buncombe County is committed to affirmatively furthering fair housing as part of our Fair Housing Choice Plan. It is important to know the protections and resources all people are entitled to.

Who should attend?

Multifamily housing industry stakeholders, non-profit housing or advocacy staff, builders and developers, architects and engineers, local/state government staff.

Topics will include:

  • The past and current context for Fair Housing
  • Safe Harbors to ensure compliance with design and construction requirements
  • Design and Construction Requirements: Technical Overview & Requirements
  • Accessible Buildings: Access Route, Entrance, Usable Public and Common Use Areas
  • Accessible control of electrical appliances, switches, and environmental control
  • Usable Kitchens and Bathrooms and Reinforced Walls for Grab Bars
  • How housing protections impact disaster recovery and CDBG-DR funded program
