Affordable Housing Committee
The purpose of the Affordable Housing Committee is to engage with community partners, solicit public input, and make housing affordability policy and funding recommendations to the Board of Commissioners for Buncombe County. Some of the items the committee discusses include affordable housing services program activities and funding, affordable housing generally, homelessness, rental assistance, feasibility studies, goal setting, and funding options.
The committee is made up of County Commissioners Brownie Newman, Amanda Edwards, and Parker Sloan. They are assisted by staff from the Community Development Division of the County’s Planning and Development Department.
The committee meets the 1st Tuesday of each month from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in the meeting room at 30 Valley Street, Asheville, North Carolina. Public comment will be taken via electronic means only. Public comment can be provided in advance of the meeting. The following criteria for comment will apply to public comment submitted in advance of the meeting: (1) any public comment must be sent between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. the day before an Affordable Housing Committee Meeting to jake.ekberg@buncombecounty.org or by leaving a message at 828-250-4834; and (2) must be no more than 350 words.
