2024 Buncombe County 'I Voted' Election Sticker Contest
2024 Buncombe County 'I Voted' Election Sticker Contest
The Competition
Election Services is hosting its 2024 'I Voted' Sticker Contest. Nearly 70 youth artists submitted sticker designs. The Election Sticker Committee, made up of Board of Elections, Communications and Public Engagement staff, and representatives of the Asheville Museum of Art narrowed down the many submissions to a top ten. Buncombe County residents will have the opportunity to vote for the winning design. Voting begins August 1. Top artists and the winning sticker designer will have an opportunity to be recognized by the Board of Elections and the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. The winning sticker will be distributed during the November Presidential Election to all voters in Buncombe County.
Our Artists
After social media outreach, live events, and coordination with local camps, our 2024 'I Voted' Sticker Contest gathered 69 submissions. The youngest artist is 5 and our oldest designer is 18 years old. The average age of our artists is 11.2. Most artists drew their designs by hand, but a few took on the challenge using design software. We had many siblings contribute designs, and one sticker was a collaboration between brother and sister.
Maya LeRoy Wins 2024 Youth "I Voted" Election Sticker Contest
With more than 2,300 people casting a vote, the numbers have been tallied and crunched, and Buncombe County Election Services is pleased to announce that 12-year-old Maya LeRoy’s ‘I Voted’ sticker design won the 2024 Youth Election Sticker contest. “We’re excited to feature the art from one of our future voters on the next sticker,” says Election Services Director Corinne Duncan. “Maya’s design will be available to all Buncombe County voters in the upcoming presidential election. Don’t worry, if you prefer the more traditional route, regular stickers will also be available.”
Young artists across Buncombe County submitted almost 70 different sticker designs, which were narrowed down to 10 finalists. Nearly 6,000 people viewed those final designs on the Engage.BuncombeCounty.org website. “We are thrilled to have received so many submissions for our second sticker contest,” says Duncan. “Thousands of people voted on these designs. I’m happy that these young artists stirred so much buzz; they should all be very proud.”
Maya is excited too. The Asheville City Schools rising seventh grader says, “I want voters to know that it is important for all different types of people to vote because they should get to have a say in the people that will run our country." We asked her to share a little bit of the inspiration behind her design, “the heart is for love and the colors are for diversity.”
Congratulations to Maya and all the contest participants. Finalists will be recognized at an upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting. Early Voting in Buncombe County for the 2024 General Election starts on Oct. 17; click here for everything you need to know.

Directions for Voting
Take some time to look at all of the designs. Select your favorite sticker and hit the blue "Vote" button to cast your ballot. Our hardworking designers used their creativity and imaginations and it can feel difficult to judge those submissions. Here are some guiding questions that might make the process easier:
- How does this design convey symbols of American elections and Buncombe County ?
- Can I see enthusiasm and encouragement for the democratic process in this sticker?
- What color choices, design choices, and craftsmanship elements really stand out?
- How will this sticker look sized down to 1.5 inches?
